What is “Banana Fish,” and how has a secret from Vietnam risen again twelve years later in Manhattan? Ash Lynx and his associates have made a violent breakout from Papa Dino’s mansion, escaping the basement cell where Ash was forced to kill his Banana Fish–dosed best friend, Chinese gang member Shorter Wong. They had help leaving the scene from Shorter’s boys and his lieutenant, the vicious Sing, who tried to get revenge on Ash–and got swatted aside like a fly. Ash burns down the house with its drug lab, slaughters the guards, and kills one of the two Dawsons, the brother doctors who alone can synthesize Banana Fish. All the public hears of the story in the media is that a shocking arson and home-invasion robbery has hit respectable millionaire and donor to youth charities, Dino Golzine... Now Eiji has holed up with Ash in one of his gang’s flophouses, where they await the arrival of their friendly ‘hood arms dealer, while Max and Ibe have barged in on the middle-class domesticity of Charlie, an ally on the NYPD.
