Ash's mother (アッシュの母, Asshu no haha) is a minor character that is only mentioned by Ash Lynx and Jim Callenreese in Banana Fish.
Personality[]
While most of her personality is unknown, she is implied by Ash to go after what she wants as she is stated to have chased away Griffin's mother in order to be with Jim. However, Jim also points out that Ash's mother abandoned Jim and Ash as soon as Ash was born as she had run away with another man.
Profile[]
Not much is known about her other than a couple of mentions throughout the story but is know that Ash Lynx is a maternal orphan since he was a baby. It is mentioned she left Ash at a young age to get away from his father and be with another man shortly after giving birth, which happened sometime after she decided to kick Audrey, Griffin's mother and Jim's first wife, out of the house. It is also stated later in volume 11 that she came from her natal Boston City to visit Cape Cod for her summer holidays, where she met Jim Callenreese, Ash’s father, and was treated as a complete stranger to the unwelcoming inhabitants of the small area in the countryside.
A small time after she left, it’s stated she passed away from drugs addiction (possibly due to an overdose), unable to reach adulthood. When she gave birth to Ash, she still being a minor, her mind and body were exhausted by a life of drugs, communal nomadic lifestyle and the Free Sex Movement. She was to stay away from her first and only child because while she was in Cape Cod, her parents, alarmed by their wandering lifestyle, forced her return to her home in Boston, but without her newborn baby boy. After giving birth at Jim's house, she named to her child Aslan Jade, "Aslan" because she gave birth at dawn and "Jade" like the gem; this is mentioned in the 11th volume of the manga.
She is mentioned in one of four novels saga "Banana Fish: Max Lobo’s notes" (バナナフィッシュ: マックス・ロボの手記, Banana Fisshu: Makkusu Robo no shuki) written by Akira Endo (遠藤 晶, Endou Akira). This novels saga was published by KSS Comics Novels since July through October 1998. In one of these novels, it’s discovered by Max Lobo that Ash's mother was considered a teenage ‘hippie’.
After Ash Lynx's death at age eighteen in winter 1987, according to novels "Max Lobo Note's" (1998), he was buried alongside at his mother's grave in a cemetery located somewhere in the Boston city suburbs. Boston, capital of Massachusetts state, was the hometown of Aslan's mother and maternal grandparents and where she returns after he was born. She died here sometime from her drug addiction short time after became mother still being a teen girl.
