Overview
Synopsis

Marvin Crosby is a minor character in Banana Fish and a subordinate of Dino Golzine.

Appearance

Marvin is an overweight man with short, brown hair. He wears sunglasses and a brown suit with a dress shirt, black shoes, and a black tie. He is often seen smoking.

Personality

He is both vindictive and short-tempered but a loyal follower of Dino's, demanding others respect the mafioso and, in turn, respect his position as Golzine's bodyguard and right-hand man. It is widely known that Marvin is gay and has a preference for green-eyed blonds, particularly Ash.

History

In the past, when Ash was a young boy being trained by Golzine, Marvin had sexually abused him repeatedly. It is later revealed that Marvin has kept pornographic videos of his abuse of Ash as trophies. The physical abuse came to a stop when Blanca became Ash's new mentor and stopped Marvin's abuse toward Ash by breaking his wrist and the threat of informing Golzine of his behavior toward the teen, indicating that potentially some/most of the abuse may have been unknown to Golzine.

Story

Marvin is watchful of Ash when the gang leader visits Golzine's manor, being both physically attracted to the boy and demanding that he respect the powerful mafioso. He annoyed by Ash's dismissive treatment of him and later jumps at the chance to team up with Frederick Arthur and get close enough to Ash to abuse him again. After Arthur's followers abduct Skip, Eiji Okumura, and Ash, Arthur beats Ash to try and learn the location of the missing Banana Fish drug. Ash seduces Marvin into releasing him from his ropes and beats the man badly enough that he, Skip, and Eiji can run, ultimately allowing Eiji to escape the hideout and alert the police to their location. During the police shootout, Marvin shoots Skip in front of Ash and flees in fear of an enraged Ash. He runs into an apartment building where Willard Evanstine's subordinates shoot him and arrest Ash for his murder moments later.

Relationships

  • Dino Golzine: Marvin is a bodyguard and loyal subordinate to Golzine. He was permitted to sexually assault Ash when the latter was a young boy being raised by the mafioso.
  • Frederick Arthur: While Marvin looks down on and distrusts Arthur, the two team up in their common dislike of Ash, Marvin seeking the chance to abuse Ash again. After successfully capturing Ash, Marvin, as a member of Golzine's mafia family, asserts his superiority over the street thug.
  • Ash Lynx: Marvin was attracted to Ash and sexually abused him when the latter was an adolescent. In response to Ash's verbal jabs, he generally views him with disdain. He takes pleasure in beating Ash with his belt and is easily seduced by the street thug.
