Jim Callenreese is Ash and Griffin's father in Banana Fish.

Profile

Appearance

Jim bears a striking resemblance to both his sons, Griffin and Aslan.

Personality

Jim first appears as a cold and stoic man, who treats others rudely, even his son Ash Lynx. He is grumpy and gruff, but later on it is revealed to only be a façade -- probably a result of being left alone by his family members due to his actions and the guilt he bears for them, especially what happened to Ash when he was a child -- and that deep down he cares for his loved ones.

Relationships

Ash Lynx

Even though it seems like Jim cares very little about his son, in reality he loves him deeply and he's happy to see him again -- something confirmed by Jennifer, too. Their relationship appears to be strained, probably after all the events the family had to face (like the departure of Ash's mother, Ash's rape by the baseball coach, Griffin's case and Ash's run away, etc.). Nevertheless, Jim is proud of his son for being able to fight a mafia don and gives him his blessing so he can take him down. He even helps Ash out by faking a robbery and erasing Ash's fingerprints after some of Dino's henchmen attacked the diner so that the police wouldn't follow his son and his friends. While he may not be considered as the typical father figure, Jim cares for his son in his own way. Ash too cares about his father, as he showed concern when he was shot and was when the group left for Los Angeles.
