Jessica Randy (ジェシカ・ランディ) is a character in Banana Fish. She is a journalist and former model for magazines, as well as the ex-wife later wife again of Max and mother of Michael.

Appearance[]

Jessica has long, dirty blonde hair reaching down to her back, with a long fringe hanging over the right side of her face and dark blue eyes. She wears red earrings and a sleeveless black top with a white skirt with a slight slit on the left.

Personality[]

When first introduced, Jessica can be seen as somewhat aggressive, as she does not mince her words and is quick to be confrontational to those who aggravate or irritate her in the slightest, going as far as to almost shoot Max when she was in her house and act rather bold when around Ash. She has shown to have some hostility towards Max, her former husband at first due to him being in jail and intended on not letting him see her son but was only convinced by Shunichi due to their history with one another.

Jessica does not tolerate any kind of disrespect and shows some distrust, smacking Bones with her bag when he tells her that he works with Ash and does not believe him. According to Max, she has shown to be stubborn and is quite determined.

Jessica, despite her hardened and aggressive nature, still shows a soft side. She shows a deep love for her son and her ex-husband, even though they are divorced, and goes as far as going back for him.

History[]

Little is known about Jessica's early life. Before the main story of Banana Fish, Jessica was married to Max until they divorced a few years after having their son. However, during the divorce, their relationship was strained due to the divorce proceedings, Max's incarceration, and the custody of Michael.

Relationships[]

  • Max Lobo: Her first reaction upon seeing that her ex-husband has returned to greet him with a gun, as she had thought she was going to kidnap her son. Despite that fact she still loves Max. Sometime after the end of the main series, she and Max are stated to have remarried.
  • Michael: Jessica has demonstrated a very strong love for her son and is rather protective of him, as seen when Max was about to hug him before she was going to shoot him with her gun. When they were under attack from men of the Chinese mafia, she allowed herself to be assaulted so that Michael could escape.
  • Ash Lynx: Although she appears to dislike Ash due to his gang connections and taunting of her age, she does genuinely care about him and his well-being and acts as a sort of mother figure to him to an extent.
  • Eiji Okumura: Jessica is fond of Eiji, cheerfully greeting him when she sees him again.[1]
