Story[]
Prior to the main storyline, Griffin was raised in Cape Cod by his mother and father Jim Callenreese. Somewhere in his teenage years, Jim became involved with a young runaway girl who proceeded to drive off Griffin's mother in order to become Jim's new wife and have his second child. Griffin became the older half-brother to Ash Lynx. Almost right after his new brother was born, Ash's mother ran away to continue her free lifestyle and the heartbreak sent Jim into such a depression that Griffin was tasked with caring for his infant brother.
He is stated to have taken his role as brother and caretaker very seriously as he was stated by Ash to have been involved in every aspect of his life, even joining his youth softball team as a coach. When Ash was around six years old, Griffin was called on to join the Army and fight in the Vietnam war. Although he disliked leaving Ash behind, he promised his brother he would return.
During his time as an enlisted soldier, Griffin met Max Lobo and told him stories of Ash and his hometown. When his troop was in Dong Tam, Griffin stumbled upon Abraham Dawson using his own brothers in arms to study human behavior when given Banana Fish. Before Griffin was able to bring this to the attention of the military superiors, Abraham surprised Griffin by injecting him with Banana Fish; something Abraham would later admit he did not want to do since Griffin was the only person who was nice to him.
As a result of having the drug in his system, Griffin was ordered by Abraham to attack their troop members. Griffin did as ordered and unleashed a hail of bullets on the relaxing troops, killing several in the process until Max shot his legs and ended the attack. When Max demanded answers, all Griffin was able to say was "Banana Fish".
Because his condition was thought to be a result of repeated drug use coupled with the horrors of the war, Griffin was sent back to the States to recover but was said to have been placed in a poorly kept hospital for military patients. After a while, his brother Ash discovered what happened to him and where he was currently being treated. When Ash saw the unsatisfactory facilities, he discharged his brother to care for him himself and used his funds from the mob to get Griffin anything he needed.
Over the years, Ash kept Griffin as comfortable as possible and even got Skip to look after Griffin when he was needed elsewhere. It was during a time when Ash was temporarily imprisoned after having been given a stolen sample of Banana Fish that Abraham and Frederick Arthur found the new location that Ash had moved Griffin to and Abraham shot Griffin when he recognized his voice.
Although Griffin clung to life for several hours, he unfortunately lost his life, and the news of his passing would have a large impact on Ash.
