Banana Fish (バナナフィッシュ, Banana Fisshu) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Akimi Yoshida. It was first serialized in Shōjo Comic from 1985 to 1994. The series produced 19 volumes (tankōbon) which were published by Shogakukan.
For North America, publisher Viz Media licensed and translated two editions. The first was published from 1999 to 2002 and covered volumes 1 - 7. The second spanned the full 19 volumes and was published from 2004 to 2007. Viz Media also printed the series in manga magazines Pulp and Animerica Extra whilst they were operating.
Viz have began to reprint the series shortly after the announcement of the anime adaption in July 2018. Viz Media began republishing the manga shortly after the anime began airing.
Banana Fish has sold over 11 million copies and was ranked first in a "Fifty Best Manga" poll conducted by the
magazine Comic Link in 1998.
