Yes quite nice that Banana Fish delved into the Halloween festivities!
Will go on! 😋
Love it so the art images like this poster and other releases!
True, the best, worst and everything in between people all incredibly well written, taking part in one heck of a plot, it's all very impressive!
Another way Banana Fish leaves its calling card, that its valued enough to not think "right favourite character died, wheres the garbage can for this series I'm done" XD Also readers going to such lengths to rationalize what happens, find ways around it, and caring enough to modify it in one area. That way it's not disrespectful to the source material (it's not like Ash then morphed into Godzilla and curbed stomped his foes) it's still Banana Fish but we also know the series well and felt the authors ingrained "the story had to end this way because of these western movies and real world examples" was incorrect.
We were shown a path where Ash accepted he had a right to be happy heading to the airport before unconvincing plot device prop character appeared.
Overall can see it as the author got the series in mind based on the inspirations come across, and yet the audience can say thanks for the amazing thriller story, and such an easily modifiable ending that is still believable. The author may have wanted a technical project that made for an excellent tragedy literary speaking, but we can now see a better ending more fitting for Ash.
Ash, and Eiji getting the true happiness they deserve outweighs wanting to pay homage to films where the characters passed away to generate drama. Characters wellbeing prevails over wanting a specific ending theme and genre.
It's like being presented a massive cake and simply rotating the cherry on top to a slightly different angle, we can so do that XD haha but for real given the circumstances.
Gosh in any case have concluded my... let's call them enthusiastic discussions! XD Ash and Eiji are so lovely together and from their time spent with one another it's now so easy to envision them living in Japan, moving back to New York and anywhere else, simply them happy and quite thankful for that : )
Always good to have different perspectives! That’s the thing though, Dino and Foxx, these obstacles were dealt with (lethally through their own ends) and so Ash had those hurdles behind him where they could not trouble him anymore. Same with Yut that possible continuing problem was mitigated thanks to Blanca so Ash was free to live, well yes basically happily ever after with Eiji.
You are right about the enduring pernicious effects of Ash’s past abuses but would offer that these thankfully really can be healed from. Sure they could bubble over but over time could definitely see them alleviated whether through being in an actual safe environment or through Eiji helping him (Eiji hugging him after Fox’s attack immediately helped Ash). No matter how serious the injury, one can be restored, or at least still capable of living and being happy which is most important. Ash was never on edge around Eiji (like carrying a gun as gang leader) he was truly at peace when interacting with him. Just like Eiji hugging him so too could Eiji adapt his helping methods if Ash experiences night terrors for example.
The thing is Ash has had serious injuries before and changed his mind that happiness was fleeting, it’s exactly why he went after Eiji at the airport to begin with. Now with the ending I think maybe we have to ‘look outwards’ from the plot so to speak. Don’t think it was Ash choosing a painful death believing happiness was fleeting; it was the author decided this series began and will end as a tragedy. Ash would never have chose leaving EIji behind, the author chose it to fit the thematic goal of the series.
It’s easy from this perspective, Ash overcomes the horrors in his life and had recourse in Eiji that he was actually willing to embrace.
Still really like the perspective you shared, I can provide a different view, yet others may have their own thoughts on this particular situation. What is a nice thing is that people have their own thoughts and can feel quite strongly on a particular viewpoint. The Banana Fish series shows itself to be great which is quite hard to do. I mean if it were a series that people were like “oh that was quite nice, what’s next” probably not as effective as what Banana Fish does – actually makes people care about it.
The first part is nice that it seems to have resonated with you, always good if something can do that!
Mandatory to respectively dissent with the second part though! Ash was never the victim, he was the hero of his story. Trauma and darkness? Pfft, whether it's handling criminals in prison to mob bosses and assassins, Ash knows what he is doing. Yes a good analogy, Ash was a mongoose to these snakes he knows how to survive against serious threats.
"the true happiness he craved for was to be remembered as a loving person capable of giving and not just taking, capable of basking in the sun instead of withering under the moon."
That was a good part, but not be remembered rather be the loving person to enjoy his life with Eiji who he certainly felt something for and vice versa. With the irreconcilable obstacles like Dino out the way Ash was safe but it was Eiji that helped dissolve Ash's chains, plus give him the reset in life he could use.
Everything bad was gone, and sure Ash could survive it anyway but obviously far better for him to live his life in happiness (and we saw firsthand he was content) with Eiji as Ash intended to do.
Living with Eiji, his family and Ibe in Japan for a while, to return to New York by the events of the prequel materials... so long as Ash was happy then that would be have been the loveliest! 👍
And that is but a select assortment! Pretty heavy going as well, each episode feels like an own movie with it's own plot, beginning middle and end. Then trilogies or something with the arcs, and all of it combined is quite the experience!
Explain why with images as well, if you would like to!
Thank you for sharing indeed, this is insightful, and sheds a key light on certain details and others may appreciate reading it!
With the information gathered would recommend storing, copy and paste if you like, your information in a blog post. That way rather than get 'lost' amongst the Discussions posts, your piece would remain secure there.
Good news in that there are quite a few side stories to choose from! Any one, or all of them would make for a perfect OVA. Such prequel materials are also from the past to show the characters in a perspective which would be interesting seeing how they react to their world then and now.
Then again even if these do not arrive, the manga especially the anime itself has eternal rewatch value. Even the first two episodes is like a movie in it's own right with beginning, a middle and an end. Same for each 'arc' if you like, all so wondrously sweet!
Kelz1703 welcome to the club XD pretty much how everyone felt, the series just had to keep dishing out the punches XD
It's exactly like you say, Banana Fish imbues sadness and is very good at it. For a reason: what is the point of a story if people think 'whatever, next'. It is, for better or worse, how Banana Fish can stake it's claim as an outstanding series. Remarkable in that it makes us care, and hurts when these awful things happen because it was real for us.
"I suppose it proves what an amazing series it was to have affected me so deeply."
That is actually true, making people feel anything is actually quite hard for media whether it is movies, music or in this case anime to do well. Banana Fish chose it's calling cards and they were very potent ones.
Hope it helps soften the impact to share that the ending can never linger, remember everything good that happened especially with Ash and Eiji - that lives forever.
Excellent choices all round, Max is lovable by all, just feel obliged to mention XD
It does seem mandatory to include a "I cannot choose one, I love them all!" option, though one answer polls only go so far, and kind of a defeated purpose of polls XD
Good choice with Eiji though, really sweet, and brave! If other choices are chosen for other characters, by all means share why in this comment section!
It's a different concept of time with anything online more so here, besides better late than never may not mean as much because it's been said, so much, but it's still true!
On that, did you come across any Easter images of Ash and Eiji, or anyone together in an Easter setting? Those would be great to see if you are up for sharing!
And/alternatively, never too late to create your own fan art of the different characters together! Ash/Eiji and Shorter, Skip, Alex, Griffin well again, anyone and everyone would be lovely to see!
Already predicting negative points for Arthur, but let's see if people are not taken by his, uh, charms?
